About In Place

Why the name In Place? We believe that intimate connections with the myriad of presences that make up particular places are meaningful ways to awaken the intrinsic sense of participation in and belonging to the larger living earth.

While our programs and events mostly take place in and among the lands and waters of the Tomales Bay Watershed, our work supports people of all ages to cultivate and sustain intimate relationships with the places in which they live.

Our focus is on attuning with the particular presences that make up the web of relations of living places and on transferring these experiences into place-connected lifeways. This attunement offers many possibilities for interaction, creativity, and connection as part of the living world.

Our approach is dynamic. We weave together nature explorations, mindfulness, play, ceremony, community building, place-centered lifestyle designing, and multi-modal art explorations that include place-based art and craft making, creative writing, storytelling, and dance. (READ MORE)

Our programs support participants in planting the seeds of artful place-centered learning in the various facets of their lives. And provide opportunity for individual and collective rejuvenation.

Kinship, care, and belonging are values that are fostered and nurtured.

In Place offers programs led by a variety of facilitators in service of enhancing the lives of participants, their communities, their home places, and our world.

Our team is a gathering of people deeply committed to the collective well-being of all who make up our earthly home. (READ MORE)

Place Acknowledgement

In Place recognizes that we live and work in the unceded ancestral lands and waters of the Coast Miwok people of present-day West Marin County.

We recognize the centuries of injustice that these people have endured and still endure to this day. As an organization we deeply respect the traditional lifeways of the Coast Miwok and are committed to following their lead in learning how to care for these lands and waters, so all may flourish.

As an organization we wholeheartedly support the efforts and aspirations of the Coast Miwok to rematriate their ancestral lands and waters and to thrive as people.

To this end, we donate a portion of our program fees to these two organizations: Alliance for Felix Cove and the Coast Miwok Tribal Council of Marin. We encourage you to support them as well.
